VCUarts student wins Go Bike! Design Contest

VCU Sophomore John Sampson has won the i.e.* Go Bike! Design Contest. His original design will be installed atop 30 bike racks throughout the city in time for the 2015 UCI World Road Cycling Championships. John’s wheel-like piece features 75 evenly spaced marks along the edge, which acknowledge both the primary function of the bike rack, as well as the convergence of people from 75 countries for the event in September 2015. Each bike rack will be further customized by individual artists, who will use John’s piece as a backdrop for original embellishment.

John Sampson is pursuing his passion for visual arts as a sophomore in the VCUarts Graphic Design program and also works at Endorphin Fitness. Read his Go Bike! submission.

As the Go Bike! Design Contest winner, John takes home a $2,500 cash prize and will be honored publicly when the bike racks are unveiled in 2015.

Thanks to all of the amazing entrants. The judges had a difficult time choosing just one design from the 67 entries submitted and are once again reminded of the abundance of creativity and talent right here in RVA.

Are you looking for “sponsors” for these bike racks? If so, I would like to suggest my cycling organization – Richmond Area Bicycling Association – support one. Could you send me what information I might need to present to our Board of officers. Thank You!
