Lisa Crawford

Lisa Crawford is the Program Coordinator at VCU’s da Vinci Center for Innovation, a collaboration of the School

of the Arts, Business, and Engineering that advances interdisciplinary innovation and technology-based


Before starting at the Center, Lisa was the Senior Producer for VCU-TV/HD where she produced 9 hours of cinéma

vérité documentaries. She won two Capital Emmy awards for VCU Qatar and VCU Inside Out: Patti D’Beck, and was

nominated for a Webby Award for the VCU-TV/HD Webisodes.

Since joining the da Vinci Center in June 2010, Lisa has immersed herself in creative thinking and innovation.

She currently participates in a Faculty Learning Committee that explores how creativity is taught across

disciplines, practices, and philosophies. Through the da Vinci Center for Innovation, Lisa hopes to inspire

creativity and innovation among students and the Richmond community.

What do you most value in your friends?
Humor – I love hanging out with friends and laughing so hard that I can barely breathe.

I usually take on too much because I have a hard time saying no.

Being surrounded by loving and supportive family and friends.

Who are your heroes in real life?
My Dad, Felicito Figueroa – He grew up in Cebu City, Philippines. He saw an opportunity to have a better life and joined the U.S. Navy in December 1972. He served in the Navy for 26 years. He is a very generous man who keeps family a priority, is always open to learning and experiencing new things, and encourages creativity. Also my Mom, Sandra Figueroa – Her adventurous spirit could not be contained to Sherrill, NY and she joined the Navy after graduating high school. She left the Navy after four years to become a full-time mother. I admire her strength and her loyalty to family.

Figueroa, Taylor, Crawford – the names that represent my family

What is it you most dislike?
Pickle/Anything pickled

What reform do you most admire?
Gay Rights

What natural gift would you most like to possess?
I wish I could sing. Singing along to “Glee” is not enough!

How would you like to die?
Warm, asleep in my bed after a long, fulfilling life.

To what faults do you feel most indulgent?
My dependency on chocolate.
